Predicting gradient F0 variation: pitch range and accent prominence
نویسندگان
چکیده
Many aspects of prosody prediction in speech synthesis could be improved, from placement of symbolic accent and phrase boundary markers to control of continuously varying parameters (e.g., duration, fundamental frequency). The goal of this work is to develop algorithms for predicting aspects of fundamental frequency typically said to have gradient variation: pitch range and prominence. In addition, the results of the automatic training methodology are used to investigate di erences in prominence patterns associated with different genres of speech.

The voice prominence hypothesis: the interplay of F0 and voice source features in accentuation
This paper explores the interplay of source correlates of accentuation, examining a hypothesis (the Voice Prominence Hypothesis) that different source parameters are involved and may serve as equivalent. It predicts that where accentuation is not marked by pitch salience there will be more extensive changes in other source parameters. This follows our assumption that prosodic entities such as a...
متن کاملLexical H*+L pitch accent in Ryukyuan: Diversities in phonological patterning and phonetic manifestation
Lexical pitch accent languages such as Swedish and Japanese have been claimed to exhibit variation in phonological inventory and/or phonetic manifestation of pitch accents. This paper reports variations in the phonetic manifestation as well as phonological patterning of the lexical H*+L pitch accent in two Ryukyuan dialects – Shuri and Nakijin. The F0 manifestation of H*+L pitch accent in the t...
متن کاملTianjinese Lexical Tone, Tone Sandhi, and Prosody: Amplitude-f0 Dependency under Prominence in Mandarin
In Tianjin Mandarin, f0 and amplitude track together on low (L) tone T1, low rising (LH) tone T3, and high falling (HL) tone T4, as is claimed to be true generally of Standard Mandarin (see Yip 2002). In contrast, lexical high tone T2 f0 tracks least systematically with amplitude, whereas tonesandhi derived high tones on T3 and T2 co-vary with amplitude most consistently. The tone sandhi induce...
متن کاملProsodic Prominence and Phrasing in Spoken Mandarin: The Case in the 3 tone
Prosodic prominence and phrasing has some general principle commonly existed in the world languages, but their execution is language-specific, especially in tone languages like Chinese. The kernel of the issue is that how the pitch manifestation of individual tones accommodate to achieve prominence and phrasing within certain prosodic domain. This paper tries to explore the peculiarity on pitch...
متن کاملIntonational and visual cues in the perception of interrogative mode in Swedish
This paper presents results from two perception experiments designed to investigate intonational cues and visual facial cues to interrogative mode in Swedish. Results from the intonation test indicate that both a widened F0 range on a final focal accent and time alignment properties of the F0 rise and peak make important contributions to the interrogative percept. Results from the audiovisual t...
